Fall 2018 Chalice Lighter Calls

Help UU Church in the Pines Buy a Church Home of Their Own!

The Fall 2018 Chalice Lighter call for our Florida geographical area has been awarded to UU Church in the Pines in Weeki Wachee, Florida. Chalice Lighter funding will help the congregation buy their first building. UU Church in the Pines plans to celebrate their upcoming 30th anniversary by becoming more firmly planted. Plans include more community outreach than currently possible by adding evening and weekday programs in a new central location. A church home will help the congregation become a more integral part of the community by supporting an identity as a stable faith community and serving as a hub for justice-linked services and programs.

Thank you from the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel De Allende and updates on the Caminamos Juntos – We Walk Together Program

President John Simsarian, president of UU Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende shares:

Thank you for your overwhelming support for Caminamos Juntos — We Walk Together, a new program to assist those Mexican nationals returned from the United States under duress. With your generosity Caminamos Juntos will help them in gaining lives of dignity after deportation. As of April 30, 2018, we have received $27,802. These contributions came from 301 individuals and 15 Congregations. Thanks to the Chalice Lighter Call we’ve been able to jump-start our response to the devastating social, psychological, physical and economic impacts of the destructive deportation practices currently underway in the United States.

…. With the leverage provided by your support, we are confident that we will meet the program needs of this important humanitarian effort.  As our work continues we invite you to follow the progress of Caminamos Juntos on the new website, www.cjsma.org, and on Facebook atCaminamos Juntos SMA.  On the website, you can also join an email list to receive updates.

Thanks again for your generosity and support. We are honored to have been chosen to receive the benefits of this Call. Through this action you are truly living out the principle of the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Chalice Lighters Background

  • The Chalice Lighter program began in 1984 as a way for individuals to extend our faith by making a donation of $10 or more for three calls per year.
  • Our new program works similarly, allowing individuals and congregations to support and be generous with one another to work on transformational goals. Chalice Lighter calls are crowd-funded contributions given by committed Unitarian Universalist “Chalice Lighters” and Southern Region congregations. Anyone can become a Chalice Lighter — just join our Chalice Lighter email list and respond with a contribution when a call goes out.
