Regina and catART by Regina Moody

Stories told in the human face and form intrigue artist, Regina Moody, always have. But is a young child, or old man, or devout woman any more alive than a mere cat, you ask?
The artist’s task is to connect to whatever aliveness is there and to bring it forward with respect as it is offered to the viewer of the painting.

The UUCC Men’s Breakfast Group meets at 9:00 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Next one is July 11. This time we meet at the Lizard’s Thicket on Beltline. If you are interested, contact Phil at pturner@unt.edu so we can have space available.

Dances of Universal Peace

All UU’s and friends are welcomed to participate in the Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) on Friday, August 2, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Social Hall. DUP are active practices that can awaken our spirits through words, melodies and motions inspired by different faith traditions. This month’s themes include repentance, forgiveness, thanks, balance, wisdom, and peace.  For more information, contact Marguerite Frongillo, 803-743-0731 or mff426@gmail.com and see the DUP North America website. Upcoming DUP are at UUCC on most first Fridays (no dance in January or July).

“The Sufi View of Creation, Mystics, and Yeshua,” Special Dances of Universal Peace, Saturday, July 27

Although there is no First Friday Dances of Universal Peace [DUP] in July, all UU’s and friends are welcome to attend special DUP-related events this July 27 and 28. We are fortunate to have a return visit of Munira Elizabeth Reed, PhD, ordained United Methodist minister, and ordained Cherag in the universalist Sufi Ruhaniat International order. On Saturday, July 27, she will start by leading a workshop, “The Sufi View of Creation, Mystics, and Yeshua,” 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Following this, we will enjoy a dish-to-pass lunch from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm pm.  Then she will lead us as in celebrating National Dance Day with DUP from around the world from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  All events are in the UUCC Social Hall, free, and donations are appreciated. Munira will also give the sermon at the Worship Service on Sunday July 28. Her topic will be “Not the Jesus I Knew: Exploring Jesus and the Divine Feminine.”

Septembr Set

On the fourth Friday of every month the UUCC has a potluck for seniors (self-defined: no ID required:-) that we call September Set. This is a great opportunity to simply talk and eat with old friends—and make new ones! Sometimes we will have a program after the meal, but usually we just catch up with what’s happening in each other’s lives.

No need to sign up; all you have to do is bring a dish to share with others. Hope to see you at our next September Set dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26! If you have questions, email or call Pat Mohr (patmohr@mindspring.com; 803-463-3504) or Jean Capalbo (jacapalbo@aol.com; 803-799-1001). This is a great way for newcomers to meet people and for all of us to renew friendships. Please join us!
