We participate in the popular Families Helping Families campaign to give Christmas to families in need. This project is the well-known one that WIS and Palmetto Project do every year, and one that we’ve participated in as a congregation since 2010. These families, which have been vetted for need, don’t have much of a Christmas without help from the community.

Families Helping Families Tree

In years past, the Social Action Committee has sponsored four families in need that they purchase and wrap gifts for during holiday season. The decorated trees in the Social Hall are covered with colored circles, each one representing a family member and a gift they have requested. There are also special needs that each family has asked for and as well as a $60 gift card for each family to Walmart for groceries. All that you need to do is take a circle of your choice from the tree and sign your name on the proper register for thatFamilies Helping Families tree with gifts family, purchase the gift, wrap it, and return it with the circle taped to it. It is common for two people to share in some of the more expensive gifts such as the gift cards or bikes. This is something you may want to consider.  Instructions are available at the tree tables. If you have questions about this program please contact the social action chair at socialaction@uucolumbia.org.
