Annual Report For Social Action Committee, 2020-21
The SAC has been somewhat hobbled by circumstance during the last program; not only did the pandemic make some of our most established and popular events (such as the Pride Parade float) impossible this year, but we experienced a double leadership change, since Kathy Farnsworth experienced an unexpected move, leading her to resign after only months as Chair. We thank her for her work with the Committee this year!
However, the Committee continued to meet virtually throughout the year, and also continued to perform its function of sharing and disseminating information about social justice issues. Moreover, members individually and in small groups worked diligently on a number of fronts.
Online UUCC Racial Justice conversation (Deb Matherly)
Columbia Inclement Weather Shelter
- Laura Hartwig and Tom Clements volunteered 100 evenings
- 10 congregants donated clothes and toiletries
Harvest Hope (Joan Waterson & Jane Lawther)
Black Lives Matter
Climate Reality Project/Earth Day SC (Nina Grey, Kevin McKinney, Deb Matherly, Tom Howell)
More Justice interfaith coalition (Nina Grey)
Transgender Sports Ban SC Senate hearings (Don Whitaker, Pippin Whitaker, Connie Quirk)
As society continues to reopen, we look forward to expanding our reach and activity.
